C.T.I. Traffic Industries held a launch event today at the industrial marketing centre of the Guantian Industrial Park, covering everything from vehicle-derived products to energy-storage system development, as it opens up storage markets at home and abroad and pursues the green-energy opportunity.
Saving energy and cutting carbon is the trend of the day. C.T.I., which has its plant in the Guantian Industrial Park, started out in auto parts and moved into storage-equipment R&D five years ago, developing products including a smart accelerator, emergency jump-start batteries and automotive lithium batteries. This year it has gone further with a smart energy-storage system suited to everything from a small household to a large factory, controllable from a phone app, storing power off-peak for emergencies or when it is needed, and with a patented anti-combustion design for safety.
Traditional industry is working hard at transformation. C.T.I. Traffic Industries started out making automotive and motorcycle parts and is Taiwan’s largest piston-ring maker, now in its fiftieth year. Five years ago it set up a new-energy division to work on power-battery applications, aimed mainly at storage and backup systems for vehicles, buildings, consumer use and industry. It has obtained a number of international certifications and created its own brands, C.T.I. and KM, selling overseas.
C.T.I. general manager Lu Wan-chieh notes that the company "saw the energy-saving trend and the opportunity, and developed a smart storage system." Members of the public can install it at home and set and control it remotely from a phone app, storing power during cheaper off-peak periods for emergencies or when needed. Specifications run from 1 to 50KW and can be paralleled for expansion, suiting offices, convenience stores, small factories and apartment buildings. A number of patents have been applied for, and the company will develop domestic and overseas markets in parallel.
Lu Wan-chieh says that in response to the EV trend, and so that existing combustion cars can also be upgraded for better efficiency, C.T.I. has developed an automotive lithium starter battery weighing half as much as a lead-acid car battery and lasting more than three times as long as an ordinary lithium battery. It suits not only passenger cars but trucks and yacht engines as well.
