C.T.I., Taiwan’s largest piston-ring company, has spent years in the auto-parts industry, but is now transforming step by step into green energy in response to the drive to cut energy use and carbon, extending its reach into daily necessities and building a global footprint at the same time. Strong revenue also earned it a place in the FTSE TWSE OTC 200 index in 2024, laying a foundation for its diversification. Keeping pace with the push to cut energy use and carbon, Taiwan’s largest piston-ring maker has begun its transformation and extended its reach into the energy-storage business.

C.T.I. general manager Lu Wan-chieh: "We wanted to get the patents on our products in place first. We already hold three patents covering 1KW, 5KW, 10KW and 50KW, and we have filed joint applications in the United States and the EU."

Beyond the green-energy transition, C.T.I. has diversified and built a global footprint: a complete piston-ring plant in Taiwan, staff-catering and liquor businesses in China covering daily necessities, and an energy-storage operation being set up in Mexico.

C.T.I. chairman Lu Wan-hsien: "The location we have chosen is Mexico, because Mexico happens to sit inside the North American trade agreement, so products entering the United States are duty-free."

C.T.I. general manager Lu Wan-chieh adds: "The carbon-credit accounting and carbon footprint the EU now requires — our products can meet all of those requirements too."

With the piston-ring business developing steadily while the green-energy transition and diversification got under way, Taiwan’s largest automotive piston-ring manufacturer saw its share price rise in 2023 and was added to the FTSE TWSE OTC 200 index. Alongside the strong results, it also gives back to its own staff.

C.T.I. chairman Lu Wan-hsien: "Employees can subscribe for company shares, and the company matches them. This way employees take part in the company’s growth, and grow with it — that is a form of benefit too."

Holding to innovation while maintaining quality has given C.T.I. a firm footing from which to keep expanding.
